Starting the Journey with Jesus

Welcome!

Beginning your journey with Jesus is an invitation into a life of meaning, hope, and transformation.

Whether you’re exploring faith for the first time, returning after time away, or simply curious about who Jesus is, you’re in the right place.

This journey isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about discovering a Person who knows you, loves you, and calls you to something deeper.

Here you’ll find clear guidance, honest conversation, and practical next steps as you begin to explore what it truly means to follow Jesus.

Who is Jesus?

Jesus is not merely a religious teacher or moral example—He is the Son of God who stepped into our world to reveal what God is like and to restore what was broken. The Bible tells us that “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:14), and that in Jesus we see God’s grace and truth lived out in human form. Jesus came to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10), to offer forgiveness of sins through His death on the cross (Romans 5:8), and to defeat death through His resurrection. Because of Him, there is real hope: “I am the resurrection and the life,” Jesus said. “The one who believes in Me will live, even though they die” (John 11:25). In Jesus, we are offered a new beginning, peace with God, and the promise of eternal life—“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

I'm not sure about Jesus, but I'm curious to know more

At Follow we run a wonderful course called Alpha which explores all the basics of Christianity. An Alpha Course is a free, welcoming series of sessions exploring the basics of the Christian faith, designed for anyone curious about life, God, and meaning, featuring food, a talk (often video-based), and open small-group discussion in a non-judgmental environment. Run globally by churches, these 10-12 week courses cover topics like "Who is Jesus?" and "Why and how do I pray?", offering a chance to ask big questions and share perspectives without pressure, aiming to introduce people to Jesus and the Church, all around a free meal.

How do I start a relationship with Jesus?

Starting a relationship with Jesus begins with responding to His invitation. The Bible calls this repentance and faith—turning toward God and trusting in what Jesus has done for you. We acknowledge our need for forgiveness, believing that Jesus died and rose again to bring us back to God: “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). This step often begins with a simple, honest prayer—speaking to God about your desire to know Him and to follow Jesus. As you take this step, you’re welcomed into a new life marked by grace, not perfection, for “by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8).

A Basic prayer to begin a relationship with Jesus

There is no special formula for praying to God—He listens to sincere hearts. This simple prayer can help you put words to your desire to begin a relationship with Jesus. You can pray it in your own way, or use it as a guide:

“God, I know that I need You. I confess that I have lived life my own way and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus died for my sins and rose again to give me new life. Today, I turn to You and place my trust in Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You for Your grace, Your love, and the new beginning You offer. Help me to follow You each day. Amen.”

God honours prayers of genuine faith, and He promises that “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13).

Next Steps

Receiving Jesus as Lord is not the end of the journey—it is the beginning of a life of real transformation. Following Jesus means learning to walk with Him daily as He shapes your heart, renews your mind, and grows you in faith through prayer, reading the Bible, and connection with other believers. God’s Spirit works within you to produce lasting change, helping you become more like Christ over time (2 Corinthians 3:18).

PRACTICAL STEPS

Baptism:One of the first steps of obedience and public declaration in this new life is baptism—a visible sign of an inward change. Baptism does not save you, but it powerfully symbolises dying to your old life and being raised to new life in Jesus (Romans 6:3–4). As you take these steps, you are not walking alone—God promises to be with you, guiding and strengthening you as you grow.

Life Groups: Life Groups are a great place to connect with people in fellowship, grow deeper in your faith through study of the Bible and serve our community through outreach events.
